How Marathon Training Actually Improved My Work/Life Balance
Better sleep + clean eating = laser focus at work
I’ll sometimes spend 2 hours running before dawn during peak marathon training.
My coworkers think I'm crazy - this is supposed to be my 'life' part of work-life balance.
But here's the irony: Training for marathons actually improved my work-life balance.
Three reasons why:
Work drama feels trivial at mile 16 when your legs are screaming.
Better sleep + clean eating = laser focus at work.
Limits Netflix time: Netflix isn't a great use of off-hours because the mind always drifts back to work anxieties anyway.
A colleague once asked how I balance 50-mile training weeks with a full-time job.
Truth is, the training IS the balance.
What challenging pursuit keeps your mind off work?

So true! Also, when I'm running I'm frequently writing an article or planning a lesson in my head, which makes it easier once I'm back in the classroom or in front of the computer.
Love this!
